Premier League: Newcastle United - Aston Villa
Football Tips: Newcastle United v Aston Villa
The Premier League kicks off this weekend and my colleague Kevin has written a great article on the start of the season. Check it out to get ready for the season. We got in touch beforehand and he has three tips in this article as well. Today, I will be looking at the clash between Newcastle United and Aston Villa on Saturday evening. Since the arrival of Eddie Howe and a new group of investors, Newcastle have gone from relegation candidates to Champions League contenders. It is not that Newcastle have been throwing money down the drain or signing overpriced stars, but that they have strengthened their squad and made shrewd transfers.
Can Newcastle cope with the double burden of Champions League football?
Newcastle are finally back on the international stage with their fantastic fans and their venerable St James' Stadium. But it also means an increased workload for the players in what is already a very tight schedule in England. However, the squad has the depth to cope with the extra strain. Apart from that, we have now gone from being the hunters to being the hunted. Furthermore, I do not believe that Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea will have another bad season. Tonali, Barnes and Livramento were all brought in over the summer, and the latter is the best central defender in English football and still needs time to develop.
My season prediction for Aston Villa
For me, Aston Villa are a team that could surprise this year and have the highest overall value after the top 6 + Newcastle. Coach Unai Emery is doing an excellent job on the sidelines, and Diaby from Leverkusen and Pau Torres from Villareal are two players who will hit the ground running. Olie Watkins was England's best striker after Harry Kane and Jacob Ramsey is one of the biggest midfield talents in the game. Now for my football prediction.
My Newcastle v Aston Villa prediction
I go on the assumption that we will see a good game here with much offensive action. Both teams have outstanding midfielders (Isak + Watkins) and a more attacking style of play. Both meetings last season went over the spread, with Newcastle winning 4-0 at home. Both teams have prepared well and will be confident going into the season. My first choice may be a little exotic, but the over 2.5 is the best bet for me.
