Self-test: What is the result after 30 scratch cards?

Scratch cards are participation tickets in an instant lottery and have enjoyed great popularity for years, especially in German-speaking countries. Scratching off the boxes always brings a high excitement factor and the prospect of winning a four, five or even six-figure prize makes the player's heart beat faster. We dared to try it out for ourselves and bought 30 scratch cards from a lottery store. With what results?

It was only a few weeks ago that I reported on a short casino session in the Betano casino on GambleJoe. I wagered 15 euros and unfortunately wasn't able to cash out a win after about 35 minutes. Now I wanted to try my luck in a different way and bought a total of 30 scratch cards in a lottery store at a price of 2 euros each. The total stake was therefore 60 euros. The lottery was organized by Toto-Lotto Niedersachsen GmbH.

On the hunt for the 15,000 euro Jackpot

I tried my luck with a total of three different types of scratch cards. I bought 10 scratch cards each for the Treasure Hunt, Balls Bingo and Magic 7 games. For all instant lotteries, the possible Jackpot was 15,000 euros.

According to the prize schedule, for example, there were a total of 1,830,000 tickets in the Treasure Hunt scratchcard series at a price of 2 euros each. This also included 183,000 free tickets. The Jackpot of 15,000 euros was won twice in total. There was also the opportunity to win between 4 and 1,000 euros. The prize schedule for the Magic 7 game was similar:

30 scratch cards scratched off - what was my balance?

It didn't take long for me to get my first (smaller) win while scratching off. Exactly 4 euros were mine after I had completed a "four wins" line in Balls Bingo and the win amount "4 euros" with the "multiplier 1" was displayed. As the game progressed, there were a lot of rivets.

But then the first slightly higher win of 7 euros with one ticket - after all! This was followed by a total of three free tickets and a few more wins of 4 and 7 euros. The penultimate ticket improved the balance once again, however, as I scratched off a total of 14 euros three times in the Magic 7 game, which meant that was my win.

Of course, after the 30 scratchcards, I also quickly redeemed the three free tickets. With a pleasing result: I won another 14 euros directly with one of the three free tickets. Back in April 2022, we at GambleJoe answered the question of whether scratchcards in online casinos are worthwhile. Scratch cards are currently not allowed to be sold in German online casinos. However, there are online stores on the lottery companies' websites where scratchcards can be purchased online.

By the way, after buying 30 scratchcards and redeeming three free tickets, my overall balance was as follows:

• 23x rivets
• 1x 7 euro win
• 2x 14 euro win
• 4x 4 Euro win

By the way: I won the most on my Magic 7 tickets. I was much less successful with the 10 tickets in the Balls Bingo series - I only won a total of 4 euros.

So in financial terms, I still ended up with a minus. The 30 tickets at the beginning cost me a total of 60 euros. I then had all the wins paid out to me, so I ended up with a total profit of 51 euros. On balance, I therefore made a loss of 9 euros.

In view of the fact that scratchcards naturally have a low payout ratio, this is not such a bad result in principle. Just two weeks ago, we at GambleJoe reported on a 10 million fraud with a manipulated scratch card in Italy.
