The New State Gambling Act in Germany (GlüStV) has been applicable for more than a year. However up till a week ago the German Authorities had not issued a single licence for virtual slot machines. It now seems that the authorities have started approving the applications for licences. Till date three providers have received an official German licence. Which gambling providers are they?

Around two weeks ago we had reported that the regional authorities (Landesverwaltungsamt) of Sachsen-Anhalt have issued a total of 25 fines for illegal gambling. Since the 1st. of July 2021, online casinos in Germany require a German licence for virtual slot machines to be able to operate and have German players accessing their products. However, which are the providers that currently hold such a casino licence?

Gauselmann subsidiary receives the first German licence for virtual slot machines

The Mernov operating company mbH is the first company which last May received an official licence for virtual slot machines. Since May, the subsidiary company of the Gauselmann Group, which is based in Espelkamp, is allowed to offer games on its online slots on its internet sites jackpotpiraten.de and bingbong.de. We had reported about this in an article on the 17th. of May 2022.

Further two gambling providers receive German licence for Online-Slots

In the past weeks, another two online gambling providers have received a German licence for virtual slot machines from the responsible authorities.

Tipwin Limited which is based in Paola, Malta received a licence for its platform games.tipwin.de. Players from Germany can here access and play on the popular Online-Slots of the brands Merkur and Gamomat. Some of the games on offer are Eye of Horus, El Torero, Dragons Treasure, Jolly’s Cap and Triple Chance.

In the beginning of July, the Ruleo Alpenland AG also acquired the sought-after German licence for Online-Slots. The company is based in Salzburg in Austria and has been given permission to offer online slots on its well-known internet site mybet.de.

The official list of providers of virtual slot machines (so called whitelist) is available on the website of the Gambling Authority.

Conclusion

It seems that after the initial period, during which it took the responsible authorities nearly a year to issue the first licence for virtual slot machines, the rest of the licences were however issued at one go. In less than two months, the Authority has now already issued three licences for virtual slot machines. It had previously also issued some licences for sports bets. It is expected that more German licences for slots and sports betting will be issued in the coming weeks and months.
