What do casino employees earn in Germany?
According to Statista, there were just under 5,000 employees subject to social insurance contributions in the German gaming industry in 2023. Of course, the monthly earnings in the industry depend primarily on the type of work performed. For example, a gaming arcade supervisor earns less than an experienced croupier or an auditor. We took a look at how much money casino employees in Germany currently earn.
The gambling industry offers thousands of attractive jobs, most of which are not badly paid. According to Statista, there were exactly 4,826 employees subject to social security contributions in the gambling and betting industry in Germany in 2023. Full-time employees recently earned an average gross annual salary of €40,660. This corresponds to average monthly gross earnings of just under 3,400 euros. For comparison: In February last year, we at GambleJoe reported on the annual salary of the bet365 CEO Denise Coates earned the equivalent of 314 million euros a year.
High salary differences within the gambling industry
Of course, as in any other industry, it depends on what qualifications you have and what job you do. According to Stepstone, gambling hall supervisors in Germany earn relatively little. A gross annual salary of 31,100 euros (= approx. 2,600 euros per month) is given as the median salary.
If you work as a croupier in a casino, you already have significantly better salary opportunities. Stepstone calculates a gross median salary of 44,400 euros per year (= approx. 3,700 euros per month). However, regional differences in salary are noticeable here. While the average salary in Leipzig is 41,800 euros, it is already 51,100 euros in Stuttgart.
In February last year, we at GambleJoe asked ourselves what an auditor does in a casino. Here, we were also able to find out that the monthly salary as an auditor is around 3,100 to 4,450 euros. This means that an auditor in a casino earns around the same amount as a croupier.
Gambling groups offer even more attractive jobs
If you manage to get a job with one of the large gambling groups such as Merkur Group or Löwen Entertainment, you can expect a significantly higher salary. However, the requirements here are also correspondingly higher and it is usually no longer a job on the ground, i.e. in a casino, but rather administrative work in the office.
According to the job portal Kununu, as a software developer at the Merkur Group you can expect an average annual gross salary of 54,200 euros (= approx. 4,500 euros per month).
As a department manager at the Merkur Group, you can expect an average annual gross salary of 74,400 euros (= approx. 6,200 euros/month). In individual cases, annual salaries of well over 100,000 euros are even possible at the Merkur Group (e.g. as a key account manager).
At Löwen Entertainment's competitors, a project manager earns an average of around 60,000 euros and a software developer almost 65,000 euros gross per year. According to Kununu, a ‘facility manager’ (caretaker) at the billion-euro gaming group based in Bingen am Rhein earns a gross annual salary of 35,300 euros (= 3,000 euros/month).
Casino streamers have earned the most in the past
As an experienced Key Account Manager at the Merkur Group, you have the opportunity to earn over 100,000 euros gross per year. That would be around 8,300 euros gross per month. What is an enviable salary for a large part of the German population would hardly impress anyone among successful casino streamers.
We already answered the question of how much casino streamers earn back in autumn 2021 at GambleJoe. At that time, we came to the conclusion that MontanaBlack earns a monthly income of just under €80,000 and Knossi a monthly income of just under €75,000. However, it has now become much more difficult for casino streamers to earn money, at least in Germany. This is simply due to the fact that the Joint Gambling Authority of the Federal States (GGL) is doing its utmost to prevent casino streams, which often advertise illegal online casinos.
Conclusion
Those who work in the gambling industry can look forward to an attractive salary and promising career opportunities, depending on the job. However, it is also true that jobs with low qualifications are sometimes very poorly paid (e.g. support staff in online casinos). However, if you have the skills required in the gambling industry, such as technical expertise, you can earn good money here.
