VfB Stuttgart cooperates with crypto casino in Asia
A few days ago, VfB Stuttgart presented another new sponsor from the gambling sector. This is the crypto casino Lucky Block, which does not have a valid gambling licence in Germany. However, the deal is to be limited to the Asian market, meaning that the lack of a licence should not be overly relevant. Nevertheless, the sports club from Baden-Württemberg has been criticised.
It was only last autumn that we at GambleJoe reported that VfB Stuttgart had presented two gambling sponsors despite criticism. Now, a few days ago, another sponsor from the gambling sector has been added. VfB Stuttgart is keeping a low profile about the new sponsor on its German communication channels. Only the club's Japanese X site has announced that the online casino Lucky Block is now a regional partner of VfB.
Lucky Block and VfB Stuttgart enter into co-operation in Asia
According to the recently published X-message, the logo of the gambling provider Lucky Block will in future be displayed virtually as perimeter advertising during online broadcasts of VfB matches, among other things. Lucky Block will also be present on VfB Stuttgart's social media accounts.
For fans from Germany, however, the deal is unlikely to be relevant. This is also due to the fact that Lucky Block does not have a valid gambling licence from the Joint Gambling Authority of the Federal States (GGL) in Germany. This means that it is an illegal gambling provider in Germany, although it can be accessed via a German IP address. Lucky Block is a blockchain-based online casino where deposits and withdrawals are made using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Tether, Ripple or Ethereum.
On its Japanese account, VfB Stuttgart states:
"Lucky Block has joined forces with VfB Stuttgart as a regional partner for the Asian market. As part of the new partnership, Lucky Block will increase brand awareness through advertising at all VfB home matches and social media activities across Asia".
VfB deal with crypto casino attracts a lot of criticism
Unsurprisingly, VfB Stuttgart was heavily criticised after the new deal was announced. Many VfB fans took to social media to ask why the club had not chosen another sponsor. As recently as the end of June, we asked ourselves in an article whether Bundesliga clubs can still manage without gambling sponsors.
VfB's long-standing partner Porsche was also not happy about the first sponsorship deal with gambling provider Winamax, but this has obviously not stopped VfB Stuttgart from bringing yet another gambling provider on board.
