USA: employee clears out casino safe

The wage does not seem to be enough for a cashier from the US Federal State of Colorado. The casino employee seems to have taken the record-breaking sum of 500,000 US-Dollar from the casino’s own safe. Meanwhile the casino employee who turned out to be a thief is sitting behind bars. How could the employee manage to steal such an impressive sum?

A few weeks ago we had reported on GambleJoe that a US lawyer had gambled away more than 10 million US-Dollar of her customers’money. In our case today an employee of the Monarch Casinos in the US Federal State of Colorado has stolen half a million US Dollar from her employer. According to the investigators, this was the largest casino robbery in the history of the Federal State.

How could the casino employee acquire so much money?

This case happened on the 12^{th of} March of this year. At around 00:45 a.m. the casino employee Sabrina Eddy put six bundles, each amounting to 50,000 US-Dollar, in a box. She sealed the box and drove off with the loot in her car. A short while later she returned to take a further 200,000 US-Dollar from the safe of the Monarch Casino. Both acts were recorded on the casino’s surveillance cameras. At the end of May of last year we had reported about a case in Germany in which a gambling addicted bank employee from Chemnitz managed to embezzle around one million Euro.

Casino management: “sometimes unlucky things happen”

The reaction of the Monarch Casinos in Colorado, from where the money was stolen, is surprising. A spokeswoman of the company stated in a very down-to-earth manner that “sometimes unlucky things do happen to a company“. The question is ,how could a single cashier manage to bypass all the supervisory bodies and hog the sum of 500,000 US-Dollar. The former manager of the Colorado Division of Gaming, Ron Kammerzell, spoke to 9News about the deed and he was shocked: ”Several casino controls must have been bypassed for such a thing to happen.” 9 News released a video on YouTube about the case:

Cashier is already in custody

The employee who stole the money was intercepted very quickly through the surveillance cameras. Meanwhile Sabrina Eddy is already in custody. She told the investigators that a man who masqueraded as the casino boss told her to fetch the money from the safe and hand it to him. We must wait and see whether the judge will believe this version. Till now it is not clear whether the stolen 500,000 US-Dollars have been handed back to the casino or not.

Conclusion

The cashier of the Monarch Casino managed to steal the impressive sum of half a million US-Dollar in quite a primitive way. This is proof enough that the security regulations of the casino in the US Federal State of Colorado must be put to the test one again.
