Which are the most gambling addicted states of the year in the USA?
Which Federal State is the most affected by gambling addiction in the USA? This question was answered in a recent study of the US-Scoring-company Wallethub. In this study, different key questions were rated and given a ranking ranging from 1 to 50. But which is the most gambling addicted state in the USA this year and in which state is there the least risk of suffering from problematic gambling behavior?
The US-Scoring-Company Wallethub has rated data from all US Federal States, to find out which areas of the United States have the most issues with gambling -addiction. The title of the current study is “2021’s Most Gambling-Addicted States“ The first surprise came at the beginning of the study: Wallethub discovered, that the issue of gambling is relatively unimportant for many US-citizens. Many go only irregularly to a casino or take part in a lottery only occasionally.
1 to 3 % of the US-citizens could become gambling addicted.
During the survey, the researchers discovered that between 1 and 3 % of adults in the United States could become addicted to gambling. Gambling addiction could make one dependable, similarly to alcohol or drugs, since in all cases the reward system of the brain is stimulated. Further to this, the US-study has also shown, that the issue of gambling is completely different and varies from one Federal State to another. In total all 50 Federal States were analysed and rated by Wallethub, according to the 21 predetermined criteria.
Which is the most gambling addicted US Federal State in 2021?
The evaluation of data has shown, that this year Nevada has received the title “The most gambling-addicted US Federal State”. The title comes as no surprise, given that the world famous “Casino-Metropole“ Las Vegas is situated here. Since the issue of gambling is omnipresent in this US Federal State, the negative consequences of the gambling sector are especially visible here. Gambling addiction is especially one of these consequences, and it was the topic of the recent study. Only some time ago, we reported about, whether the Crypto currency Bitcoin is on the verge of a breakthrough .
Utah is at the bottom of the ranking
On the pleasant last place in the Wallethub-Ranking we find the so called “The Beehive State“. The talk is of the US Federal State Utah, which has only around three million inhabitants. But why are the negative consequences of gambling here so obviously of no serious issue?
The reason for this circumstance is mainly, that the Mormons are here the dominant religious community. Both the local legislation, as well as the faith of the people forbid participation in gambling. For this reason, gambling and problematic gambling behaviour are of no issue in the desert state. Only a few weeks ago, we reported about another US study in an article, which talks about the fact, that gambling addiction is significantly higher in youths. Another state at the bottom of the ranking is the US Federal State Hawaii (Position 43). Even here, gambling is illegal, so that the negative consequences of gambling are hardly felt.
Conclusion
The recently published study of the US-Scoring-company Wallethub shows very clearly, that in the United States, the issue of gambling is tackled differently in each region. Whilst in some Federal States as Utah or Hawaii gambling is illegal, other states as Nevada play a leading role worldwide and offer several entertainment opportunities in cities as Las Vegas. Therefore it is of no surprise, that the desert state Nevada takes the lead in the ranking list of “The most gambling addicted states of the year 2021“. In total, between 1 and 3 % of adults in the USA could suffer from gambling addiction.
