A few days ago, a player at the Grand Casino Lucerne managed to hit the legendary Swiss Jackpot. She won more than 1.64 million francs, which is the equivalent of around 1.75 million euros. But on which slot machine did luck strike and at what amount does the Swiss Jackpot start again?

In December last year, we at GambleJoe answered the question of what the highest possible winnings are in German online casinos. We came to the conclusion that the possible winnings in land-based casinos are often higher, as progressive jackpots are permitted here. A player at the Grand Casino Luzern managed to hit the Swiss jackpot of CHF 1.64 million at lunchtime a few days ago.

Player wins 1.64 million francs - but on which machine?

The player must have been quite astonished when the display on the slot machine told her that she had won the Swiss Jackpot. At the time of the win, it totalled CHF 1.64 million. The winner from the canton of Lucerne was playing on one of the oldest Swiss Jackpot machines and hit the jackpot with a line of five red 7s. At the end of July, we reported that a new customer at the Atlantic City Casino had won a similar amount.

The Swiss Jackpot is connected to a total of ten casinos in Switzerland. At the Grand Casino Luzern alone, there are eight slot machines offering the chance to hit the jackpot. As the casino's managing director explained, the player is already the 11th person to win the million-dollar jackpot at the Grand Casino Luzern. In total, the casino in Lucerne alone has already paid out around 19 million francs in winnings via the Swiss Jackpot. In Switzerland, as in Germany, casino winnings are tax-free.

Last summer, we at GambleJoe reported that a player in Las Vegas managed to hit a double-digit million jackpot on a slot machine.

What does the winner plan to do with her million-dollar win?

Immediately after the impressive jackpot win, the player from Lucerne said that she would first buy a new car from the jackpot:

‘The first thing is to get a new car, my second-hand car won't make it much longer’.
Just a few days after the jackpot was won, the Swiss Jackpot already stands at around CHF 1,010,000 (as of 20 September). The Swiss Jackpot always starts at one million francs. The casinos to which the Swiss Jackpot is linked include Lucerne, Basel, Bern, St. Gallen, Lugano, Zurich and Baden.

At the beginning of the year, we also asked ourselves here whether it is more likely to be struck by lightning or to win a casino jackpot.
