Study: Every slot machine player generates around 300 GBP in revenue in a year
The British Organisation for player protection has commissioned a new study about gambling. During this study the researchers concluded that low earners are often involved in excessive online gambling and are thus affected by the relevant losses. Besides this, the NatCen-Study reveals the time and money every slot machine player spends on gambling on average in a year.
Just at the end of March of this year we raised the issue in an article about which players are especially prone to gambling A new NatCen-Study was published a few days ago in Great Britain. This study was commissioned by the well-known player protection organisation GambleAware. Around 140,00 player accounts from seven different online casinos were analysed for the purpose of this study. In today’s article we are sharing with you the interesting results which came out from this study.
One in hundred players is affected by “excessive gambling”
According to the British Study, around 1.2 % of the player accounts are affected by “excessive gambling”. We speak of “excessive gambling” when the yearly gambling time in the respective online casino amounts to around 200 hours. Therefore, this means that the “excessive player” must be active in gambling for 30 minutes a day in the casino. Many of these players prefer to use virtual slot machines. According to the recent study, around 60 % of the stakes fall in this category. Around a year ago in April 2021 we had reported, that according to GambleAware some few players generate the majority of the turnover. Even the NatCen-Study confirms this theory. According to this study 90 % of the turnover is generated by only 20 % of the players.
On average, slot machine players lose nearly 300 GBP 300 GBP per year
The study which was commissioned by GambleAware also concludes that every active player registered in a casino loses on average around 296.20 GBP per year in virtual slot machines. As a comparison: An average betting customer provides the providers with a yield of “only” 134.98 GBP per year.
Besides this, the analysis of the 140,000 player accounts revealed that around one in every five players (21,5 %) are currently making use of deposit limits to control their personal gambling behaviour. This also means that a large majority of players are gambling without any limits on deposits or losses. Around a year ago we had also reported about the accusation that providers are only giving change money as a contribution to GambleAware to help fight gambling addiction.
Less surprising is the fact, that only one fourth of the players in online casinos are female. Thus, the online gambling market is still mainly a “male domain”. The single exception is online bingo: with approximately 62%, females made up the majority of players.
Conclusion
Data and behaviour tendencies of 140,000 player accounts were analysed and evaluated. Among other things, it was concluded that every slot machine player loses on average around 300 GBP per year. Further to this, low earners are more often victims of a problematic gambling behaviour. The most problematic players are mainly male and on average are 40 years old. However, one has to take into consideration that only the data of British players was used.
