OASIS: Over 270,000 player bans
A total of over 270,000 player bans are currently active in the nationwide player ban file OASIS. With the exception of around 10,000 players, all players have blocked themselves. This is according to an answer from the Hessian Ministry of the Interior to a parliamentary question from the FDP parliamentary group in the state parliament.
Since the new Interstate Treaty on Gambling (GlüStV) came into force in summer 2021, providers have been obliged to enquire about a player's blocking status before they participate. The nationwide ‘Online Abfrage Spielerstatus’ (OASIS) has been in place for almost two years for this purpose. There are now 271,400 active player bans in this nationwide banning file. Of these, 261,800 players have had themselves banned at their own request.
We last reported on 3 June 2023, almost exactly one year ago, that there were around 192,000 banned players in the OASIS ban file. This means that almost 80,000 self-imposed or third-party bans have been added in the last twelve months.
Over 35,000 venues are connected to the blacklist
According to the Hessian Ministry of the Interior, around 38,500 establishments are now connected to the nationwide blocking file. This includes not only all online casinos with a German licence, but of course also all sports betting providers with a German licence, which we at GambleJoe recommend. In addition, stationary gaming facilities such as casinos and casinos are also connected to the OASIS system.
We at GambleJoe first reported on the OASIS player blocking system for better player protection back in April 2021.
OASIS: 90 million system queries per month
The fact that a total of over one billion system queries have been made to the blacklist over the past twelve months is impressive. This means that an average of 90 million system queries have been processed each month.
In the first weeks and months after its introduction, the OASIS player blocking system did not really function reliably. We also reported on this at GambleJoe in July 2021, but the blocking file now functions largely without technical problems.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, there has only been one case of a blocking file outage lasting around ten hours since 2022. In six other cases, there were outages that could be rectified after just a few minutes. The outages were usually caused by technical problems or cyberattacks.
How can players block gambling offers?
Anyone wishing to be temporarily blocked from gambling offers can apply for a blocking entry either directly to the respective gambling provider or alternatively to the responsible Darmstadt Regional Council. The duration of the ban must be at least three months. The affected player can also apply to the Darmstadt Regional Council for information on gambling addiction counselling. How an OASIS ban works via the Darmstadt Regional Council is explained below:
- Click here to complete the application to enter a self-exclusion in OASIS in accordance with the GlüStV.
- Complete and sign the application.
- Send the application together with proof of identity (e.g. ID) by e-mail to spieleranfragenoasis(ät)rpda.hessen.de.
- Wait for confirmation of the player ban.
Tip: In a slightly older guide published on GambleJoe, we have already tried to answer the question of how responsible gambling works.
