Majority of British CEOs participate in gambling
Not only employees, but also managers participate regularly in gambling. This is the result of a new study from Great Britain, which was carried out on behalf of the online poker platform CardsChat. The concept of gambling was here broadly interpreted. But do CEOs have a problematic gambling behaviour more frequently?
During the British study a total of 800 CEOs and other managers from Great Britain were asked about the issue of gambling. From the result, it could be determined, that the majority of respondents who have a successful job participated in different forms of gambling. This does not only include classical gambling forms as gambling in the online-gambling hall, but also company specific betting.
Three out of four CEOs gamble on company internal events
800 Managers and CEOs were questioned within the framework of the British study. In all, 76 % of the participants stated, that they would gamble at least once a month on company internal events. This means that for example, they bet on the performance of particular employees in the monthly statistics or that they gain new customers. Besides this, around four out of ten CEOs which took part in the survey, stated that they also participate actively in other areas of gambling. Just a few months ago, we asked in an article, whether one can be a professional “job player” in Germany.
Managers from the personnel and marketing departments are especially gambling conscious
The evaluation of the survey also showed that managers and CEOs from particular departments of the companies are especially gambling conscious. To be more precise, 61 % of the bosses from the personnel department, as well as 54 % of the managers from the marketing department regularly take part in gambling activities. Employees in a managerial position from the departments of accounting and controlling (48 %) are similarly gambling conscious.
According to the British study, managers from the educational sector are less active in gambling. Here only 4 % admitted to gamble at least once a month. Unfortunately the study does not give any insights about to what extent managerial staff are affected by a problematic gambling behaviour, i.e. are gambling addicted.
In which type of gambling do CEOs participate?
The British Study of the Poker platform CardsChat has also found out, that the CEOs questioned have clear preferences about their choice of gambling. More than one in two “Gambling fans“ (56 %) are especially interested in sports betting. Besides, Online-Poker (51 %) and Blackjack (29 %) are especially popular with managers and CEOs.
This shows a clear tendency towards strategic gambling. According to the survey, managers, who often have an academic qualification, are more interested in gambling, in which they think that they can better influence the outcome of the game through their own strategy. Accordingly, it is of no surprise, that most classical slot machines do not play an important role for CEOs.
Do they also play during working hours?
Actually, one in every three respondents has stated during the survey, that he or she even gamble occasionally during working hours. In fact, this distraction through gaming and gambling at the work place is one of the largest things which anger the boss.
Conclusion
The study presented here, due to the comparatively limited number of participants, should only be treated with caution. Besides, the fact that quite a significant number of managers gamble occasionally is surprising for some. It is a fact, that CEOs and managers are more interested in strategic gambling games as blackjack or poker than in the classical slot-machines.
