Kehl: regulatory agency boss and casino operator receive sentence

A few days ago, the former regulatory agency boss of the city of Kehl and a gambling hall operator had to appear in court in front of the District Court Offenburg and answer for several acts. At the end they both received a suspended sentence. What did the gambling hall boss and the city employee do wrong?

Last October we had reported on GambleJoe that two sports betting companies had receive a sentence in Frankfurt. In the actual case the gambling hall boss had to answer for granting advantages and bribery. The former regulatory agency boss of the city of Kehl in Baden Württemberg were accused of granting advantages and bribery.

Suspended sentences for gambling hall operators and former regulatory agency

The Chamber of the Regional Court of Offenburg believed there was sufficient proof that the 74-year-old gambling hall operator had promised the 41-year-old regulatory agency boss of the city of Kehl the amount of 50,000 Euro for the private property purchase. Besides this, the former municipal employee had spent the night in an accommodation of the gambling hall operator and did not pay for it. However, the judgement stated that there was no transfer of money. In June 2022 we had reported about an exciting hr-document called “7 Tage in der Spielhalle“.

The District Court of Offenburg handed the former boss of the regulatory agency a prison sentence of one year and two months for granting advantages and bribery. He was given a suspended sentence of two years. Further to this the former manager of the municipality had to do 120 hours community service and attend a psychotherapeutic treatment of four months.

The accused gambling hall boss was handed a suspended sentence of one year and two months for granting advantages and for bribery. Besides this, the District Court Offenburg had decided that the businessman must pay a fine of 300,000 Euro. 125,000 of them are going to the treasury. The remaining 175,000 will go to social institutions or organisations.

Besides this, during the trial an employee of the casino operator was condemned to pay a high fine of 5400 Euro for helping with the bribery. The District Court is supporting the request of the prosecution. However, till now the judgement is not yet final.

Corrupt employee of regulatory office gives an advantage to gambling hall operator

The former boss of the regulatory office had received 50,000 Euro in return for breach of duty and for granting the gambling hall operator special permits for bistros and restaurants in which slot machines are set up. Besides this, the former boss of the regulatory office of the city of Kehl had forwarded internal details from the city hall to the gambling hall operator.

During the trial the judge stated: “This should not happen”. Despite the probation sentence, the former boss of the regulatory office did not lose the right to hold public office. However, for obvious reason he is now “burnt” for every post.

Conclusion

In the city hall in Kehl all employees were shocked about this case, especially when the boss was arrested way back in November 2021. After the arrest there was an immediate overhaul, and everything is being done so that this type of incident does not happen again.
