Jay-Z wants to open own casino in New York

According to recent media reports, the US-American rapper Jay-Z is planning to open his own casino in New York City. The millionaire rapper wants to open his casino together with two other partners at the legendary Times Square. However, he first needs to acquire a gambling licence from the city. How did Jay-Z come up with the idea to open a casino?

Recently we had reported on GambleJoe that Jay-Z had already applied for a US sports betting licence. A few days ago, it was announced that the millionaire rapper is also planning to open a casino in New York City. The company “Roc Nation”, which Jay-Z manages is trying to acquire the necessary licence to operate a casino in Caesars Palace on Times Square.

Will Jay-Z soon be a casino owner?

The successful musician wrote an open letter to the city of New York whereby he requested that a gambling licence is issued to his company. The plan is that Jay-Z opens a casino together with his company “Roc Nation”, the real estate company SL Green and Caesars Entertainment open a casino. At the beginning of 2021 we had reported that Caesars Entertainment in the USA had to sell three casinos. There had been a lot of rumours about Jay-Z’s plans and he cleared them all in an open letter.

Jay-Z’s company has announced that it wants to invest in security and sanitation in the areas of Times Square so that the interests of the Broadway theatre community are protected. This Jay-Z has already promised that he will invest 115 million US Dollars in “various theatre programmes“ which will in turn cover the costs of childcare for Broadway employees. The aim is to draw more tourists to New York and enhance the lives of New Yorkers.

Why does Jay-Z want to open a casino?

“Roc Nation“ has argued in public that it wants to engage itself to see that the Times Square remains connected to all facets of culture. The “threesome“ Jay-Z, Caesars and SL Green, have stated that there is no better location for a representative casino than the crossroads of the world. Last December, Jay-Z had spoken happily about the cooperations with the two partner companies:

“My partnership with SL Green and Caesars is a promise and commitment towards economic possibilities, growth and enrichment for the community and all those who visit the Empire State.”

The American Authorities has still not confirmed whether Jay-Z and his partners Caesars and SL Green will receive the popular gambling licence. However the state gambling commission is expected to take a decision during this year.

Besides Jay-Z there are other financial giants bidding for the DU gambling licence. The billionaire owner of the baseball team New York Mets, Steve Cohen, has also applied for a licence. The gambling activities in New York are currently very restricted and thus it is not an easy feat to acquire a casino licence.
