Homeless wins 2,500 Euro in casino - then he is murdered

A 40-year old must stand trial in the next days in a court in Ireland. The man is accused of hitting a homeless man so hard, that he consequently died. Shortly before the attack, the life of the victim seemed to change for the better, after he had cleared away everything in the casino.

The murder trial has been proceeding in front of the Criminal Court in Irish Dublin since the 17^th. June. The defendant, Feri A. is being accused of physically abusing the homeless and unemployed construction worker Ion B. (49) so hard that it consequently led to his death. The horrible act took place three years ago.

Homeless won 2,500 Euro in casino before the deed

The victim was described in court as “a decent person“ and “a good friend“. As a witness, there was among others, Marian D., a construction worker and friend of the victim. The witness had in the past worked with the victim, Ion B. on several building sites in Ireland. The late victim had always been generous and had always shared with other people, although he himself never had a lot. Besides he had often sent money to Spain, where his young daughter lives.

Shortly before the deed, the victim had, according to witnesses, found a 2-Euro-coin on the street. He used it to try his luck in the casino - and succeeded. He cashed an impressive win amounting to 2,500 Euro in a casino in Eden Quay. Less than three days later, the homeless man was dead.

Victim was brutally beat up - was it a holdup murder?

The seriously injured victim was found by witnesses in the early hours of the 13^th.April 2018 in a green area in Tallaght near Dublin. Ion B. died only a day later as a consequence of his massive injuries. According to the newspaper Irish Times, a doctor spoke of “extensive blunt violence and bruises on several parts of his body“. Besides, the victim had internal injuries and his ribs were broken.

It is still currently questionable, whether the deed was a hold up. It is still not clear, whether the perpetrator had beat up his victim, to get his hands on the casino winnings of the man. Till now, the accused is denying the accusations. The police in Dublin identified the man after several statements from witnesses and after they had evaluated the recordings from security cameras.

Conclusion

After the big luck came the devastating tragedy. The homeless Ion B. led a primitive life on the streets of Dublin. After he surprisingly won 2,500 Euro in a casino, his life seemed to take a turn for the better. However a few hours later the man was dead. Now it still has to be established, whether the short term lucky fellow had to die because of his casino winnings or whether there is another motive behind the brutal act.
