Greece: Largest casino in Europe planned

An American Greek consortium of companies will build the largest casino in Europe. The casino complex will be built on the former airport grounds on the wonderful coast of the Saronic Golf. But what can the visitors here look forward to and when can we expect it to open?

A few weeks ago, we had reported that meanwhile in the EU’s dwarven state of Liechtenstein there are 6 Casinos for less than 40,000 inhabitants. Now we bring you the latest news from Greece: As it was announced, a splendid casino will be built on the grounds of the former Ellinikon International Airport, South of Athens. The American Greek consortium of companies plans to build here the largest casino in Europe.

Gambling Authority issues licence - building works can start

Two weeks ago in the Greek Capital, the investors of this project revealed their plans. The Greek Gambling Authority EKAZ had already issued a licence so that the operation is regulated. The investors from Greece and America plan to build a casino with an area of around 15,000 sqm on the land of the previous airport. Here there should be 2000 slot machines in place and also more than 200 game tables, on which for example roulette or blackjack can be played.

An impressive hotel tower with around 1000 rooms is also planned. Besides this there will also be a spacious meeting and conference centre with a total area of around 24,000 sqm. The investor group also plans to have a leisure complex, a sports hall and a show theatre. Just a few weeks ago, we had reported that the stake limit in the online casino in Greece has increased from 2 to 20 Euro.

In March 2021 we had also reported about the opening of a new casino in Kurfürstendamm in Berlin. 

Opening planned for 2026

The current plans see the largest casino in Europe opening by the end of 2026. The building works on the former grounds of the Ellinikon International Airport in the South of Athens have not started yet. However, the first construction workers will soon arrive here to start the mega project. Besides this, around a year ago we had reported in an article about the business of gambling licences in Greece.

Conclusion

In less than four years there will be the largest casino in Europe on the coast of the Greek Capital City of Athens. Among other things, the guests will expect to see more than 2000 slot machines as well as 200 card tables. There will also be a hotel complex with over 1000 rooms, a leisure complex and many other attractions. We are excited to see whether the investors involved in this project will actually see this project through and whether we could report about the opening of the mega casinos in 2026.
