GGL criticizes unreliability of some of the online casinos
The gambling authority which oversees all regions in Germany does not only rake criticism but also deals out criticism. During a symposium on games of chance organised by the Universität Hohenheim, the authority informed the public among other things about the status of the licensing procedures and also about the issue of illegal games of chance. The chairman did not mince his words and especially criticised the unreliability of some providers.
Since the 1st.January 2023 the gambling authority which is based in Halle is responsible for regulating the gambling market in Germany. During this year’s symposium organised by the university of Hohenheim on the 14th. und 15th. March the newly founded authority gave an update on it successed in fighting illegal games of chance and also about the status oft he approval procedures.
GGL Board requests gambling firms to cooperate
The Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder, in short GGL, has now been functioning for more than three months. The chairman Ronald Benter drew a positive interim conclusion for the first quarter after the GGL started. In September of last year we had reported on GambleJoe about an interview, which the GGL boss had given to COMPUTER BILD. During the symposium about games of chance organised by the Universität Hohenheim, Benter was satisfied with the developments of these months. However he pointed out that the gambling firms are not cooperating enough:
“We are on the right track to having a legal market. Most of the decisions on the licence applications that we have received have been taken. However we are not seeing enough cooperation from the online gambling providers.“
Benter lamented for example that many applicants had not transferred the requested security deposit on time. At the end of January we had reported that the GGL is requesting between 5 and 50 million Euro as security deposit from the licence holders. Besides this Benter pointed out deficincies in the individual games which have been submitted by the online gambling providers:
“this applies both fort he payment oft he security depsoits and also the deficincies in the submitted individual games in the field of virtual slot machines. This delays the licensing procedures and hinderst he speedy channelisation process oft he illegal to legal markets (…) We would like to see more efforts from the providers.“
GGL is pleased with the success it achieved in the fight against illegal gambling
In the authority’s official press conference which was released on the 15th.March and and which can be accessed here, the chairman expressed his satisfaction about the successes in the fight against illegal gambling. He emphasised that many illegal services have been taken away from the German market.
Besides this, the GGL has worked together with several payment services providers so that there will be fewer payment methods which are available in online casinos. A few weeks ago weh ad published an article on GambleJoe about the fact that according to GGL 95 % pf the German users are already making use of legal sports betting providers.
Conclusion
The “Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder“ is proud of the successes it has achieved up to now. It is preeing itself with a high channelisation in the field of sports betting and is of the opinion that with the necessary rigour one can also sufficiently fight illegal games of chance. At the same time the chairman criticised the partly insufficient cooperation of some online gambling providers. We are excited to see how the situation in the German online gambling market will develop in this year.
