Gamomat expands climate initiative
Sustainability and environmental protection have long since arrived in the gaming industry. German casino games manufacturer Gamomat has been active in this area for some time. Now the company has expanded its "Gaming for the Climate" initiative. What exactly does this mean?
We are all regularly confronted with new (shock) news about climate change and other negative environmental events. Some of us have already felt the effects of these developments. Many scientists (not all, of course) agree that our environment has not changed much for the better in many contexts, and that we are at least contributing significantly to this genesis.
Research into what can be done to mitigate climate change-related disasters (such as the flooding in the Ahr valley) is in full swing. The gaming industry has long been involved in this area: LÖWEN ENTERTAINMENT is getting more and more involved in corporate environmental protection, the Bundesverband Automatenunternehmer has published a guideline with concrete recommendations for sustainability measures - and at GambleJoe you can also donate your GJ Coins for a good cause or to protect the environment (in the past for example to support an initiative against plastic waste in the oceans by One Earth - One Ocean e.V.).
At the beginning of 2022, we reported in detail on Gamomat's "Gaming for the Climate" campaign. It all started with the support of the non-profit organisation Healthy Seas through a pro-rata profit share of the Book of Oasis sales. Now the initiative has been expanded to include the African Wildlife Foundation, which will receive a share of the revenue from a Gamomat slot: Lava Lions.
Gamomat's climate initiative at a glance
The Gaming for the Climate initiative was launched with the support of Healthy Seas, a non-profit organisation that campaigns against plastic waste in the oceans, including the detection and removal of ghost nets.
Unfortunately, it is not known how much the Book of Oasis slot machine revenue has brought in and continues to bring in. However, it was apparently enough to prolong the action until the end of 2022. Following the same concept, a proportion of the revenue from Monkey Mania is donated to Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Germany. The organisation works to protect orangutans in the Bornean Mawa forest.
At the beginning of August 2023, Gamomat announced a further expansion of the initiative. From now on the slot Lava Lions will also be involved. As with the previous games and donations, there is a link between the theme of the title and the focus of the beneficiary organisation. The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) will be supported on several levels.
What goals Gamomat is aiming for together with AWF
Gamomat's main aim in supporting AWF is to help improve regional conservation in various areas:
- African communities to be more involved in land-use planning and forest management.
- It will also optimise the implementation of patrol strategies in local protected areas. The aim is to contribute to the fight against illegal wildlife trade.
- Efforts will also be made to improve landscape connectivity between Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Parks (Kenya) and neighbouring ranches. The aim is to restore overgrazed areas.
- According to the game developer, the project supports a habitat covering 42,000 square kilometres. Another key concern is the protection of a lion population of around 430 animals.
How does Lava Lions by Gamomat work?
Lava Lions is a classic Gamomat slot, but it comes with a treat in the form of lots of free spins. This is a five reel, three line game. Wins are spread across a neat 30 paylines. The number of paylines can be reduced from 30 to 20 or 10. At the top of the bonus features are clearly the up to 100 free spins. The maximum comes into play if you manage to get five scatters. We are very proud to host Lava Lions and expect that this latest addition will also contribute to the good cause".
What would be interesting to know is exactly how positive the impact will be, i.e. how much of the sales will be donated to the good cause. After all, something is being done (to whatever extent). It is certainly to the game provider's credit that it gives away part of its income. There is no doubt, however, that Gamomat derives a not inconsiderable advertising value from "Playing for the Climate".
