Gambling institute with new director
The Institute for Gambling and Society (GLÜG) has had a new Managing Director for a few weeks now. His name is Prof. Stefan Korte. But what tasks does the new director have and why does the GLÜG exist at all?
The primary task of the new Managing Director of the Institute for Gambling and Society, GLÜG for short, is to scientifically monitor the development of the gambling market. Just a few days ago, we at GambleJoe asked ourselves what we can expect from the new head of Merkur, Lars Felderhoff. Now we would also like to find out who the new GLÜG director is and why the institute exists in the first place.
GLÜG Institute takes on important work
The GLÜG Institute is a third-party-funded research institute of the Faculty of Law at Ruhr University Bochum and the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer. The institute is currently receiving financial support from Westdeutsche Lotterie GmbH & Co. OHG and the Association of the German Vending Machine Industry (VDAI) as part of the second funding phase until 2029.
VDAI Managing Director Lars Rogge emphasizes the importance of the institute in a statement:
"In recent years, the GLÜG has already made a very valuable contribution to a scientifically sound and prejudice-free discussion of various aspects of gambling. (...)"
Prof. Stefan Korte has been the new Managing Director of the GLÜG Institute for a few weeks now. This makes Korte the successor to Prof. Dr. Julian Krüper. In his first interview, Korte emphasizes the importance of the work of the GLÜG Institute:
"The willingness to cooperate between state and private players is significantly greater, and any barriers have become much smaller. This is a major achievement of the work of the GLÜG and it shows: The gambling market needs this objectivity from academia."
According to the official website of Ruhr University Bochum, Prof. Korte holds the Chair of Public Law, in particular Public Economic and Climate Protection Law at the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer. In addition, Korte has already dealt extensively with the state gambling system in his dissertation. He has also published several publications, such as a handbook on gambling law and other publications on gambling law.
In the fall of 2021, we reported on GambleJoe that the newly founded gambling authority in Germany initially started with a dual leadership.
GLÜG Institute plans new format
As the GLÜG Institute recently announced, a new format is planned under the title “Speyer Forum on Gambling and Society”. The aim of this format is to be able to look at relevant topics of gambling law from different perspectives. In this context, online casinos are also likely to receive increasing attention in the future.
In all activities, the new director attaches great importance to ensuring that the institute remains scientifically independent - despite the fact that the institution is funded by third parties.
