Gambling firms start campaign on the occasion of “International Women’s Day”
International Women’s Day is celebrated today, on the 8th. March 2022. Many gambling firms took the opportunity of today‘s celebration of International Women’s Day to launch a campaign which addresses gender specific differences in the gambling branch. But what exactly is this campaign about?
International Women’s Day has meanwhile been celebrated for more than 100 years. Berlin is the first German Federal State which has even declared “International Women’s Day” which is celebrated on the 8th. March as an official public holiday. Women’s Day is also a public holiday in Angola, Eritrea, Moldavia, Georgia, Russia and the Ukraine. Several large gambling firms came together for this year’s campaign of International Women’s Day 2022. However what are the plans of the gambling firms which are taking part in the campaign for this special day?
Women from the gambling sector want to report about discrimination
DraftKings, Kindred and Flutter are among the gambling companies which are involved in the campaign which is being organised for “International Women’s Day”. In September of last year we had reported that Flutter wants to introduce a 500 Euro-loss limit for U25-players.
The above mentioned gambling firms plan to publish several video clips in the coming days, in which female employees working in the gambling industry talk about discriminating experiences in the world of employment. Besides this, the managers of some gambling companies will also feature in the video clips and show their opinion. The videos will be released little by little using the Hashtag #breakthebias. In December 2020 we had already reported, that around 50 % of the employees in the gambling sector are female.
However not only Kindred, DraftKings and Flutter Entertainment are taking part in the campaign. Besides these, LeoVegas, Yggdrasil, Betsson, Sky Betting & Gaming, as well as Sportsbet are also participating. GiG, Catena Media and Better Collective and several affiliate companies are also part of this campaign. The non-profit organisation All-In-Diversity Project as well as the British marketing agency Square in the Air are also involved.
The director of All-In-Diversity Project, Kelly Kehn, gave a statement and she showed that she was impressed with the commitment and involvement. However she pointed out that there is still a lot to be done as regards gender based equality:
“It is also a reminder that a lot of work is still required to be able to overcome gender specific prejudice and to see how many of the heavyweights of the industry are ready to campaign for it personally.”
Conclusion
In Germany, it is only the inhabitants of Berlin who can be happy to have an extra public holiday to celebrate “International Women’s Day“. However in many countries the International Women’s Day has been an official public holiday since many years. This year gambling firms as Kindred, DraftKings and Flutter have launched a campaign to create awareness that women nowadays still have to face many disadvantages.
