Gambling reform in Curacao - first licence awarded
The Curacao Gaming Authority issued the first gaming licence under the new licensing system a few weeks ago. But which gambling company was able to secure the first licence and can players from Germany now also benefit from the gambling reform in Curacao?
In September last year, we at GambleJoe reported on the launch of the new Curacao licence application portal. A few months later, the Curacao Gaming Authority has now officially announced that the first licence for an online casino has been issued. For German players, however, this does not mean that they are allowed to play in online casinos with a Curacao licence. In this country, only online casinos with a German licence from the Joint Gaming Authority of the Federal States (GGL) are still allowed.

Rhino Entertainment Group awarded first 'new' Curacao licence
As announced by the Curacao Gaming Control Board (GCB) earlier this month, the renowned Rhino Entertainment Group has received its first gaming licence under the new licensing system - for the CasinoDays platform.
Rhino Entertainment's CEO, Ross Parkhill, was naturally delighted:
"To be the first company to receive this new licence is not only a privilege, but also an endorsement of our achievements and efforts, particularly in the area of responsible gaming".
Curacao's online gambling sector to be revolutionised
The Caribbean state of Curacao is looking to improve its image in the online gambling sector. Until now, the licensing system has been opaque, with sub-licences being issued almost at will and little oversight by the authorities. Now, all sub-licensees must register on the new registration portal by the end of March and apply for a gaming licence in accordance with the new standards. Online casinos that fail to apply for the new licence by the deadline will lose their licence altogether.
With the gambling reform, the Curacao government aims to prevent the country from being placed on the Financial Action Task Force's (FATF) grey list. However, it remains to be seen whether the current efforts will be sufficient to achieve this goal. In any case, Curacao is currently trying to establish a new gaming authority that will regulate the activities of online casinos better and more strictly than before.
Back in the summer of last year, we asked ourselves in an article what the future holds for Curacao casinos.
