The founder of the British airline easyJet recently launched a new sports betting brand on the market. The offer is initially only aimed at players from the UK. But what are the reasons that prompted the easyJet founder to enter the betting business and when will German betting customers be able to register with EasyBet?

In the recent past, we at GambleJoe have already reported several times about companies that have had little to do with the gambling sector entering precisely this market. Just over a year ago, for example, we wrote an article about the streaming service DAZN opening a sports betting portal in Germany. A year earlier, we reported on rumours that the German TV channel Sport1 was also planning to establish an online betting provider. However, the service is not yet available. Now easyJet is the first airline to enter the sports betting business.

EasyJet founder launches sports betting brand on the market

Europe's second-largest low-cost airline is now offering not only flights, but also sports betting. On the online portal ‘easybet.net’, British players can already find a selection of 13 sports, including cricket, American football, baseball, basketball and golf. New customers currently receive a free bet worth £20 if they place a bet of at least £20 themselves.

The billionaire easyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou is cooperating on the project with the well-known betting provider Triplebet and its managing director Zeljko Ranogajec. Both managing directors will each hold 50 per cent of the newly founded brand.

Market analysts believe that the newly founded sports betting brand has a good chance of success. This is of course primarily due to the high level of awareness of the umbrella brand. In 2022 alone, easyJet carried almost 70 million passengers and had 345 passenger aircraft.

EasyJet is part of the easyGroup and is the second-largest European low-cost airline after Ryanair. The company, which is now listed on the London Stock Exchange, was founded in 1995. The British airline currently employs around 14,000 people and generated a turnover of £5.76 billion in 2022.

Is EasyBet available for German betting customers?

So far, EasyBet is only available to customers from the UK. There are currently no plans to make the service available in Germany. However, there are a number of attractive alternatives in our current comparison of sports betting providers.
