Düsseldorf: Security service unearth a brothel and a casino

Just a few days ago, the Security Service in Düsseldorf (OSD) unearthed an illegal brothel which was incorporated with a casino. The Security Service had been informed about this private apartment by a citizen. It seems that it was being used till late at night for gambling. What type of gambling was this and which penalty awaits those who are responsible?

Around a week ago during their patrol the security services unearthed an illegal casino. Other activities seem to have also been carried out in the basement rooms of the private apartment. The suspicion: The rooms seem to have been used as an illegal brothel. In January of this year, we had also reported about illegal gambling in Solingen, during which a six-digit sum was confiscated.

Passer-by approaches OSD patrol

A passer-by alerted the Düsseldorf Security Service (OSD) who were on patrol near the train station (OSD). This passer-by advised the employees that gambling was taking place late at night in a private apartment nearby. When the OSD patrol staff went to inspect the apartment, three other men entered the same apartment complex before them.

In the private apartment the Security Staff found a Roulette table and several other equipment associated with gambling. In another article in March of this year we had already reported that illegal slot machines are on the increase. Since the situation was quite complex, the OSD employees called their colleagues for backup.

Different kind of games in the basement?

The Security Services inspected the apartment, including the basement. They found here several game tables and slot machines, but also several beds, as well as a sofa. The OSD-employees also stumbled upon a sleeping woman here. Several condoms, different sex toys and lingerie were found around the woman. The employees of the Security services soon realised that the apartment was also being used for prostitution.

Responsible person identified - apartment sealed up

The Security Services then called in the police and the tax police. The gambling equipment which was being used without an operating licence was seized. The woman who was in the basement, as well as the three persons who had entered the premises before the OSD patrol staff were questioned. These persons all stated that they only know the first name of the owner. However, this information was enough to help in the investigations and in identifying the person responsible.

Other persons entered the apartment during this operation and their particulars were noted. The police then sealed up the apartment. Criminal proceedings were initiated, and the man is being accused of illegal gambling and of facilitating prostitution. The man is also facing criminal tax proceedings. In March we had reported about a gambling raid in Bremen, during which a total of 400,000 Euro cash was seized.

Conclusion

Thanks to the passer-by who tipped of the police, the Security Service in Düsseldorf managed to dismantle an illegal casino and a brothel. The private apartment was sealed up and the relevant investigating procedures have been initiated.
