Manhunt: Casino robber steals €100,000 in 60 seconds
The City Casino in Vienna was robbed on 7 April. The robber stole around 100,000 euros in just one minute. The police are now publicly searching for the suspect, who has not yet been caught. But how did the masked and armed robber manage to steal such a large sum of money in just a few seconds?
Over a year ago, we at GambleJoe reported that a female casino player in Mainz won 18,000 euros and was robbed immediately afterwards. In the latest case, a similarly brutal robber in Vienna's City Casino took around five times that amount. In the early afternoon hours of 7 April, the robber, who is still unknown, quickly ran into the casino in Kärntner Straße and wordlessly threatened an employee with a pistol. The employee then handed over around 100,000 euros. Less than 60 seconds later, the man left the casino again. The 1.80 metre tall perpetrator was wearing beige trainers and a mask.
LKA Vienna: Perpetrator was a professional
The experts at the Vienna State Criminal Police Office are certain that the robber was a real professional. The man knew immediately where the cash was in the casino and didn't say a word to the staff. After the loot was handed over to him, he stuffed it into his Ralph Lauren breast pocket and calmly left the casino. So far, the investigators from the Vienna Criminal Police Office have no leads on the perpetrator.
As a consequence of the robbery, the security of the building was again significantly increased. In addition, several casino employees had to receive psychological counselling after the robbery. Reinhard Deiring, the casino director responsible, commented:
"It does something to a person when you look down the barrel of a gun".
TV manhunt for the unknown casino robber
The police are now publicly searching for the still unknown robber. A video sequence of the crime has already been published on Austrian TV in order to track down the perpetrator. However, the mugshot only shows a man wearing a mask and dark clothing. The relevant authorities have already offered a reward of 3,000 euros for information leading to the capture of the casino robber. In September 2022, GambleJoe reported on two armed casino robberies in Stuttgart.
