The operator of the Monte-Carlo casino and luxury cruise operator Crystal are planning to open a Casino de Monte-Carlo on the high seas. Until now, the company behind the Monte Carlo casino, Monte-Carlo Societé des Bains de Mer (SBM), has operated almost exclusively in the Principality of Monaco. But what exactly can water-loving gambling fans look forward to in the future?

Over five years ago, we at GambleJoe reported on the new trend of casino cruises. Now the Monte-Carlo Societé des Bains de Mer (SBM) is also looking to enter the international gaming business on the high seas. SBM recently announced a partnership with the luxury cruise operator Crystal. Both companies specialise in catering to a more affluent clientele.

Cruise passengers can soon look forward to a floating casino

In just a few months, passengers on the two luxury ships Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony will be able to enjoy slot machines and other games of chance on the high seas. At least that is what the operator of the Monte-Carlo casino, Monte-Carlo Societé des Bains de Mer (SBM), announced a few weeks ago. To be more precise, the first floating Casino de Monte-Carlo is due to open on 14 November this year on board the Crystal Symphony in Venice.

SBM roughly translates into German as "Society of Seaside Resorts and Foreign Circles of Monaco".

Monte-Carlo Societé des Bains de Mer (SBM) is a listed company under the state control of the Principality of Monaco. SBM is a leading player not only in the European gaming business, but also in the luxury property business in Monaco. SBM was founded in 1863 and today employs around 5,000 people, most recently generating an annual turnover of almost 620 million euros.

SBM is also the indirect majority owner of the gambling company bet-at-home.com AG. The bet-at-home brand has a German sports betting licence and is therefore 100% legal.

What will the Casino de Monte-Carlo look like on the high seas?

The casino on the luxury cruise ship will not only be equipped with a number of slot machines, but also with table games such as Three Card Poker, Texas Hold'em Ultimate Poker, American Roulette and Blackjack.

SBM Deputy Chairman Stephane Valeri is positive about the upcoming collaboration with the luxury cruise operator:

"We are convinced that by combining our expertise, we will enrich the cruise industry with a unique gaming experience."

Back in April 2021, GambleJoe reported on a floating luxury casino for Argentina. However, unlike the floating Casino de Monte-Carlo, this casino ship is stationary in the harbour.
