25 million Euro fine: Netherlands’ Gambling Authority ruthless
The Dutch Gambling Authority is proceeding radically against gambling providers without a valid licence. As it was announced a few weeks ago, the Kansspelautoriteit imposed the sum of 25 million Euro against seven online gambling providers. Now the Authority has also announced which gambling companies can expect to receive fines.
We had reported on GambleJoe about the strict procedures of the Dutch Gambling Authority Kansspelautoriteit. Recently in July 2022 the Authority had threatened Gammix Ltd. ,which is a well-known company in the industry, with a fine of one million Euro. Now the “gambling watchdogs” are taking things seriously and they have issued fines in two million digits against seven operators of illegal online casinos. In the Netherlands the online gambling market is similar to the one in Germany – it has only been regulated since the past 18 months and thus has strict legal provisions.
Historical high fine against N1 Interactive imposed
At the beginning of February the Dutch Gambling Authority stated that fines amounting to 25 million Euro would be issued against different providers. Now the Kansspelautoriteit has also divulged which companies will in fact be fined and also the amount of the fine. The company “N1 Interactive Ltd” which is very well-known in the gambling industry has been fined 12.64 million. This is the highest fine ever issued by the Kansspelautoriteit.
Even Videoslots Ltd. must pay nearly ten million in fines. However, those responsible at Videoslots do not want to accept the fine and are accusing the “Gambling watchdogs” of using questionable methods. Apparently, employees of the Authority posed as “German customers” to be able to access the services. They had previously been blocked when they posed as Dutch customers. However, in a statement Videoslots conceded that after they got to know of the grievances, further measures were taken to prevent them from happening again in the future.
High fines even for other gambling companies
Further fines were issued against five other online casino providers, which have no valid licence in the Netherlands. Probe Investments Ltd., which operates the EnergyCasino must pay a fine of 1.128,000 Euro.
The Betpoint Group Ltd., which operates brands as JustSpin or Casinofest must pay 1.787,000 Euro to the Dutch Authorities. The Fairload Ltd. and Shark77 must each pay the fine of 900,000 Euro. The Kansspelautoriteit has thus issued fines to gambling companies which amount to 25 million Euro.
Conclusion
As opposed to the Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL) in Germany, the Dutch colleagues are proceeding faster and being stricter with illegal providers of online games of chance. Within a short time, several fines which total 25 Million Euro were imposed on the respective companies. However these think they have been wrongfully accused and do not want to accept the fine.
