We run everything on gas. Both heating and hot water. There's the (usually) nasty surprise every year just before Christmas.
Our apartment is rather poorly insulated, so we turned the heating on a few days ago.
We also often have problems when the burner breaks down or a few years ago the oil level suddenly stopped displaying correctly and then suddenly everything was empty - temperatures are also really cool, especially as the large water tank with hot water doesn't last forever either
I feel you also have your treatment of water with oil ? Had to order a few 1000 liters this year
If our heating breaks down, I would have a real problem with this terrible heating law. Oil heating is now extremely demonized here. I can only pray that it doesn't break down.

Unfortunately, yes, but it's not the pump or the burner that can break down, but everything else usually works, at least for us
Switched from oil heating to heating pellets & sure it's perhaps more environmentally friendly, doesn't smell, but in the end it's actually more expensive...
i'm curious to see whether this investment will have paid off in a few years...

I've also gone back and forth with pellet heating. First it was great, it was considered climate-neutral, then the greens started again saying ugh, you have to cut down trees for that, but a CO2 price should be charged, then they agreed again to consider pellet heating acceptable. This back and forth, what uncertainty this has stirred up among the population. But it's good that you've got it behind you.
