Goosebumps when I look at this thread of mine again and read through.
Time for a 50% good and 50% bad update.

Unfortunately, I was much too euphoric and had several small relapses.
Just with Corona and 2020 it was time again and there the devil got me again unfortunately. But also in 2019 there were moments with relapses. In principle, I was not really long game-free and the debts were not less as a result.

After proper professional counseling and some therapy sessions, I am currently in a virtual support group and learning to deal with this devil.

I have realized that we will take this devil to the grave with us. We just have to learn to keep him small and to control him. He must never become bigger than us, no matter whether we are experiencing a blow of fate, whether we are down, whether we are bored, etc...
He must never make you feel that he is the solution to all your problems.

Furthermore, it is also naive to say that you can replace this addiction with something else like in my case in the past with shares and so. It is rather his addiction shift, which is also not healthy in the long run. A passive investing in ETFs is of course fine but the stock market is currently not a good place for me because this devil could also access there.

I've been gamble free for over 10 months now at a stretch (since 02 Oct 2022) and dutifully pay off a loan every month with all the debt.
It is of course stupid but the money is now gone and with it one must accept.
The loan is your own punishment and in a few years, you are also rid of this.

In the end, no one should underestimate this addiction (which I unfortunately did in 2018, which you can clearly read here) and always be attentive.

A support group is definitely a good tool to keep up to date with the topic and thus the devil also has less chance to grow up.

It's good to keep this thread up to date and I'm already looking forward to the next (hopefully game free) post.

Thanks for the update and your honest reflection

Continue to stay gamble-free and target your reward system differently than gambling, then hopefully 10 months will soon turn into several years. I'm definitely keeping my fingers crossed for you and wishing you all the best for the future

Update:

In principle, not much has changed from the last post.

I have reached the anniversary of the 1st year game-free and will continue to fight.

More updates will follow when something comes up or I reach a new milestone

PS: To all the "pro gamblers" here in the forum. i can't take you seriously anymore and also i will just delete your private messages. NOBODY will be successful in the long run with gambling. That is a fact. Have fun furthermore with this hope

Hello,

i'm Susanne, I've already posted several comments here, and I work in an addiction counseling center for Gambling addiction in Bavaria. I think it's just great how you try to encourage other people with your story. It's really important to send out the signal that you can manage to get away from gambling addiction if you really want to. It's really exciting to experience the ups and downs you had to struggle with until you found your way out of gambling addiction. Thank you for your honesty and courage.

I hope you can reach many people with your story and motivate them to stop gambling. For me, it is really terrible to hear again and again from those affected what gambling destroys everything. I am always happy when someone manages to stop.

Finally, I would like to give you a tip. If you are really unsure or if you fall off the wagon, you always have the possibility to seek professional help. Be it through an addiction counseling center in your area or through online counseling. That is entirely your decision.

If you want to know more or have any questions, you can find me on the homepage of PlayChange, an online counseling site under the name "Susanne Schmidt".

I wish you all the best. You can be really proud of yourself!

Many greetings

Susanne
