The question about the sex of the test subjects is by no means associated with the devaluation of women. If we test men and women, we need to test roughly the same number of subjects of both sexes in order to be able to make a valid statement. However, we already have great problems with men in finding enough subjects who want to participate and who meet the criteria for the study. There are even fewer women who show tendencies of Gambling addiction than men, ergo we would then have even greater recruitment problems. This is just one of many reasons why we only include men here. In other studies, we include women just as often
Back to the study: we are still urgently looking for volunteers! Besides a nice "tip", you will also be supporting important basic research that advances our understanding of the neurobiological background of gambling addiction. I am happy to receive friendly inquiries
To make it a bit more convenient and easier for participants we have also optimized our study design (only ONE day instead of two and a shorter participation period!)
For a scientific study the Biological Psychology of the University of Cologne is currently looking for test persons ,
who regularly participate in gambling or betting.
The study is being conducted at the Max Planck Institute for Metabolic Research in Cologne and includes psychological tests and questionnaires on the computer, and a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination
Participation lasts a total of max. 4-5 hours and takes place on one day.
As an expense allowance you will receive 10€ per hour and with successful participation again 40€ extra which you will get paid in cash.
As a possible study participant you should be male, healthy, between 18 and 50 years old and regularly participate in gambling or betting. Further inclusion and exclusion criteria will be clarified with you by telephone.
Have we aroused your interest? Then simply get in touch via

I participated last year.
The people are very nice and correct.
Quick money
And I know I don't have a tumor in my head lol.
Because they say that if they see an abnormality on the MRI images, that they then consult.
A side effect with not insignificant consequences as I find.
So who is in the area and has the time, clear recommendation to make it.

vomvom12 wrote on 08/21/2019 at 17:27: today first appointment completed: mrt recording of the brain in the "resting state"
almost an hour in the tube lain (45min) like a sardine in the can...but no problem I can relax me at
something like that totally well relax and am also almost fall asleep despite the noise the mrt makes...
for people with claustrophobia who have to make such an examination for health reasons is
that certainly a monster horror trip!
Hm brain in the resting state? How do I have to imagine it? Should I try not to think or try to sleep? Otherwise it will be vlt difficult because you always iwie broods or so..

Before the actual measurement, an "anatomical measurement" of the brain is taken.
In this process, a 3D image of the brain structure is taken, so to speak.
We need this for the later statistical evaluation of brain activity during a learning task. Using the anatomical image, we can then locate the change in brain activity locally in the brain.

In principle, I would be interested in participating.
Are the dates for the examination agreed upon or are there guidelines/periods?

I am glad to hear that. Appointments are made by phone/email. The MRT is also used by other
Research groups, so we always have to look for free appointments quite spontaneously. But that's no problem at all.

I think that the payment for the study participants is much too low.
100 € for the time and unpleasant longer examination in the MRI is simply very little.
If you increase the compensation, I am sure that you will find enough participants.
Good luck for it.
