This has nothing to do with the goal of the study, but good...
Aha - the funny thing is that the brain "learns" exactly through these effects. Of course it has nothing to do with the search for test subjects - but may still be interesting for the TE... I think at least.
If you want to read more about some insider stuff you should search for AKA# - that was some info I put in here
This is not so far from our research. We are interested in different "learning strategies" and associated brain structures and how these may be altered in their function in gambling addiction. In this context, deeper dopaminergic brain areas play an essential role. Here one could equate the somewhat unspecifically/popularly scientifically titled "subconscious" with these dopaminergic structures. To put it bluntly, the stronger the dopaminergic neurons fire, the greater the addiction potential. This can certainly be modulated with targeted modifications in the game design.

Of course, we clarify this beforehand. We do not let someone with claustrophobia into the MRI. In addition, you can of course
you can signal that you want to leave the MRI at any time by ringing a bell. Then, of course, you will be taken out of the MRI immediately
out of the MRI. So don't panic

I had to go to such an MRI a total of 3 times in the last few years. And yes, it is hell for people with claustrophobia! I hope I never have to go in there again.
It's amazing that you can relax so well that you almost fell asleep.

We once again condensed the study participation to one day (instead of two days) to minimize participant effort:
For a scientific study the Biological Psychology Department of the University of Cologne is currently looking for subjects,
who regularly participate in gambling or betting.
The study is being conducted at the Max Planck Institute for Metabolic Research in Cologne and includes psychological tests and questionnaires on the computer,
as well as a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination
Participation takes a total of about 6 hours and takes place on one day
As an expense allowance you will receive 100€ in cash!
As a possible study participant you should be male, healthy, between 18 and 50 years old and regularly participate in gambling or betting. Further inclusion and exclusion criteria will be clarified with you by telephone.
Have we aroused your interest? Then simply contact us by

To reiterate. So far, all participants have enjoyed taking part. We are a young, very nice team that makes the study participation as relaxed and pleasant as possible. And there is 100€ on the hand.

I would actually like to participate, but unfortunately come from BaWü
Nevertheless, I have a purely scientific question. Are male guinea pigs being sought here, since women, as usual in medical research, are judged to be abnormal? For those who are not aware of this fact: In almost all drug studies, only men are tested, since they have a simpler hormone balance and have already been better investigated through an enormous number of tests in the past. As a result, drugs are regularly launched on the market that have been tested little or not at all on women. Some of these have a different effect on women than on men and are therefore not suitable for them, but are nevertheless prescribed and used clinically
It is well known that the brains of men and women function differently. Is this the reason why research is conducted exclusively on men? The number of women addicted to gambling is increasing in percentage compared to men. Thus, the omission of a female control group would be unjustifiable from a scientific and ethical point of view
