Player protection
Since the new State Treaty on Gaming (GlüStV) came into force on July 1, 2021, at the latest, the topic of Player protection has once again been on everyone's lips. The primary goal of player protection is to protect players from the negative side effects that gambling can bring. In addition, effective player protection also involves consistently excluding minors from gambling.
Player protection measures in the new GlüStV
The legislator's goal is to effectively improve player protection. For this reason, it was decided in the new GlüStV to introduce numerous measures to ensure that players can gamble as responsibly as possible. But which player protection measures will apply to online gaming arcades with a German license since July 1, 2021?
- Cross-provider monthly Deposit limit of 1,000 euros per player
- Minimum playing time of five seconds
- Maximum Bet of one euro per game round
- Autospin feature is no longer allowed
- Panic button must be integrated (= 24 hour lock after one click)
- Progressive jackpots are also no longer allowed
- Player lock file was introduced (OASIS)
Players' own initiative is required
Player protection is particularly effective whenever players are aware of the risks of gambling and comply with the measures out of their own conviction. For this reason, every "occasional" gambler should familiarize himself or herself with the risks of gambling and, in particular, with the issue of gambling addiction. It is of elementary importance to be honest with oneself and to gamble in a disciplined way.
In any case, it is recommended to set individual loss or stake limits in advance. These limits should of course be adjusted to your own financial situation. At most online casinos and online gaming arcades, daily as well as weekly and monthly limits can be set in the player area.
Gambling addiction is a serious issue
According to current study data from the Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA), around 430,000 people in Germany are currently affected by problem gambling or gambling addiction. The largest Risk group includes young male adults up to the age of 25 with an immigrant background or a rather low income.
