Macao

Macau is a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China, located about 50 kilometers from Hong Kong. The city is currently home to around 650,000 inhabitants and the main sources of income are primarily gambling and the associated tourism. Within just a few years, the number of tourists increased from eight million in 2000 to nearly 30 million in 2013, and already in 2013, land-based casinos in Macau generated six times as much revenue as gaming venues in Las Vegas. Most recently, more than 35 million people came to Macau as tourists in 2018. Macau's popularity as a gambling capital is largely due to the fact that gambling is illegal in mainland China - but not in Macau.

Famous casinos in Macau

Built in 2007, the Venetian Macao Resort Hotel is about 980,000 square feet and consists of nearly 3,000 suites. The in-house Casino not only has over 3,400 Slot machines to offer, but also around 800 gaming tables. Other well-known casinos in Macau, China include the Grand Lisboa Casino, the MGM Casino, the Wynn Casino Macau and the Rio Casino. There are currently already more than 50 large casinos spread across the Macau peninsula.

Besides Chinese and Cantonese, Portuguese is still the official language in Macau. After Qatar, the Chinese metropolis is also the second richest country in the world. So far, there are no direct flights from Germany to Macau. Transfers are possible in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Bangkok.
