Jeton
A chip is a token that is used in various games of chance. Jetons were first used in roulette. In the meantime, a chip is also used in Blackjack and poker. In Poker, however, it is more commonly referred to as "chips" rather than a token. Normally, chips must be wagered in all land-based casinos. The use of cash is usually not permitted.
In casinos in Germany, chips with a value of between 1 and 10,000 euros are normally issued. High-quality chips, by the way, are often made either of ceramic or of a clay or loam mixture. Cheaper tokens are instead made only of plastic with a metal core.
Usually, not only the value (e.g. 5 Euro) is printed on the tokens. In addition, tokens often contain information about the respective Casino as well as counterfeit features such as holograms or registration numbers.
Incidentally, the New Jersey Casino Control Commission has specified the following colors of tokens for America:
- 1 US dollar: White
- 2.50 US dollars: Pink
- 5 US dollars: Red
- 10 US dollars: Blue
- 20 US dollars: Yellow
- 25 US dollars: Green
- 100 US Dollars: Black
- 500 US dollars: Purple
- 1.000 US dollars: Orange
- 5.000 US dollars: Gray
- 20.000 US dollars: Mustard yellow
